Course Description
While there has been significant progress in the field of heart transplantation over the last 45 years there remains serious challenges that clinicians must be prepared to face when managing their patients. Barriers include the shortage of donor organs limiting the number of patients able to receive a heart transplant; cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) and malignancy compromising long-term survival of cardiac transplant recipients; and drug induced complications from chronic immunosuppression including diabetes, kidney disease, hypertension, and obesity, all of which contribute to patient morbidity and mortality. Lectures will be given by internationally recognized experts. Didactics, case presentations and debates will engender learning and improvement in the management of patients with heart disease.
