Cardio-Obstetrics Program at Columbia University Medical Center

The Cardio-Obstetrics Program at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) provides nationally recognized, multidisciplinary care for individuals with cardiovascular disease during pregnancy. As heart disease remains a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States, our program is committed to ensuring the safest outcomes for both parent and baby through expert, personalized, multi-disciplinary care.

We work in close collaboration with the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, anchored by The Mothers Center—a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to caring for patients with complex medical conditions during pregnancy. Together, we provide comprehensive evaluation and longitudinal management before, during, and after pregnancy.

Key Highlights:

  • Columbia delivers over 4,000 babies annually, with hundreds of patients referred each year for cardio-obstetric evaluation and care.
  • Our team includes cardiologists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and cardiothoracic surgeons working seamlessly to coordinate care.
  • We specialize in congenital and acquired heart disease, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, aortopathy, valvular heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, and the hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
  • Our program also supports patients through preconception counseling and postpartum cardiovascular risk assessment.

At Columbia, we’re not only delivering babies—we’re leading the way in cardiovascular care for every step of the maternal journey.
