Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories

For treating many types of heart or vascular disease, cardiac catheterization is an important diagnostic procedure. In many cases, it can lead to minimally invasive treatments, sometimes as an alternative to larger, open-heart surgeries. During a catheterization procedure, a thin tube called a catheter is inserted into an artery or vein to access and treat the heart and blood vessels. Because of their complexity, these advanced procedures require a special facility called a catheterization laboratory or “cath lab.”

Columbia’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories combine world-class expertise with the latest technologies and on-site advanced diagnostic testing. Our cath labs are designed to make sure your treatment is comfortable, safe, and fast—so you can get back to your life.

What is the Cardiac Cath Lab?

Why Columbia?

Columbia has pioneered the field of interventional cardiology, helping to develop and perfect many common catheter-based procedures and techniques. These minimally invasive treatments improve safety, reduce recovery time, and shorten or even eliminate hospital stays.

  • Imaging Capabilities - We rely on the very latest technologies to guide our procedures, allowing our team to perform even the most complex procedures with confidence and precision
  • Expertise and Experience - As the site of pioneering research in the field of catheter-based procedures, Columbia has a proven track record that no other cath labs can match
  • History of Success with Difficult Cases - Our team routinely performs procedures that many catheterization labs rarely encounter
  • Unmatched Response Time - Our seasoned team of physicians, technicians, and nurses are able to coordinate rapid responses to even the most urgent situation, where seconds count

Our expert physicians perform all catheterization-based procedures at state-of-the-art catheterization laboratories in two locations.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center (NYP/CUIMC)
